Flying Officer D. E. George Martyn is mentioned in Typhoon and Tempest on page 51. "In a separate action on New Year's Day, F/O Martyn of 137 Squadron shared an He.111 with F/L G, Clubley, DFC. They had taken off from Eindhoven at 0850, minutes before the Luftwaffe strike. [Bodenplatte] At 0940, while ten miles west of Hameln, they spotted the enemy aircraft flying at 50-100 feet and set upon it."
Martyn's grandson, Jarrod Pettipas, was interviewed about his grandfather, The Western Star, a newspaper published weekly reading 21 000 homes in Western Newfoundland, in October 2017 by Sam McNeish. Jarrod was given a model aircraft his grandfather had been gifted that commemmorated the service flying sorties he flew in the final year of WWII. The model had been in Martyn's bedroom and both Pettipas and Martyn had many discussions.

George Martyn was married to Olive (1922-2014). She passed away in Cobourg, Ontario. They had two children and four grandchildren.
